The Pink LouLou Team use quality materials to make each piece of Pink LouLou jewellery. All Pink LouLou silver jewellery is made from Sterling Silver 925 and the gold pieces from 22ct Gold Plate.
Why do we use Sterling Silver 925?
Sterling Silver 925 is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing large functional objects. In Sterling Silver the silver is alloyed with copper to give strength whilst preserving the malleability of the silver and a high precious metal content, making it ideal for making silver jewellery.
Why do we use 22ct Gold Plate?
All Pink LouLou gold jewellery is 22 carat gold plate (22ct). Gold plating is a method of depositing a layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. At PinkLouLou we use Sterling Silver 925 under the gold plate. The carat (abbreviation ct) is a measure of the purity of gold alloys. Because of the softness of pure (24ct) gold, it is usually alloyed with base metals for use in jewellery, altering its hardness and ductility, melting point, colour and other properties. Alloys with lower caratage, typically 22ct, 18ct, 14ct or 10ct, contain higher percentages of copper, or other base metals or silver or palladium in the alloy. 22ct Gold Jewellery is made up of 91.3 percent gold plus 8.6 percent of some other metal alloy.
